Cornwall Colts Player Profile: John Richer

Splayers, John Richer strapped on skates
at a young age and fell in love with playing
and watching the game.
“I started playing for Char-Lan with
Chris Fraser as the coach who taught me the
fundamentals of the game,” shared Richer.
“Then I moved on to the Seaway Valley
Rapids AA a few years later, coached by
Marc Sauvé, and was honoured to be named
captain for the three years I was there. Then I
stepped up to AAA with the Eastern Ontario
Wild where I was an assistant captain
for three years. I then went to the Ontario
Hockey Academy for the next two years and
was affiliated with the Cornwall Colts.”
Richer, 17, is now a Cornwall Colt.
“I enjoy being able to live at home and
have all my friends and family be able to
watch me play. It’s great hockey and I am
pushed to my limits everyday,” expressed
Richer, who is a local player.
With hockey season kicking off, Richer
said the team is coming together and will be
a competitive force come playoff time.
When Richer is not playing hockey, he
enjoys playing golf, boating, fishing, and
ATVing. He is also a student at Char-Lan
District High School. After high school,
Richer’s goals are to play in the NCAA and
get a university degree in sports medicine.
“My goal this season,” said Richer, “is
to get better every ice time and become a
