Gilles Gaudet - Sports Enthusiast - Like many of you, I’ve watched about as much women’s tennis as I did professional bull riding until Bianca came onto
the scene, first at the Canadian Open and then the US Open. Then we couldn’t get enough of Bianca. Bianca is a phenom, but like all phenoms Bianca has to
add continued success and longevity to her resume to attain the status that Gretzky and Crosby have achieved. You only have to look at recent Canadian tennis

history to realize that greatness can be fleeting. In 2014 Genie Bouchard had what many would consider a better year on the WTA tour than Bianca’s whirlwind
2019. During 2014 Genie went to the finals at Wimbledon, semi-finals of the French and Australian Opens and to the 4th round of the US Open. She was the
Bianca Andreescu of 2014 in Canada, and in the world of women’s tennis. Since then Bouchard has struggled, her ranking has fallen from a high of 5th in the

world (ironically that’s the same number as Bianca’s present ranking) to her present 149th ranking. Don’t feel sorry for Bouchard though, her career earnings
in tennis alone have brought her a little over 6 million dollars in revenue. In fact you’re more likely to see Bouchard in a Sports Illustrated magazine than on a
                 Sports Energy
tennis court. To achieve the status of Gretzky or Crosby, Andreescu will probably have to dominate the tennis world for the next ten years or so. She’ll need to
win a few more Grand Slam titles, Wimbledon included, and probably about 20 other WTA titles. She’s an incredible story, a talented athlete, and exactly what
tennis in Canada needed to propel the sport to new heights. She still a long way off from being considered a Canadian sports icon, let’s hope that she’s successful
                          in maintaining her incredible 2019.
