From Snowboards to Skateboards with Chris

Jack Ruest, the operator of Big Ben, said that with
weather permitting, the hill plans to be open during
March Break.
“We’re pretty lucky to have had this facility all these
years, enabling children of all ages to learn how to ski,
as well as snowboard, right here in your backyard,” said
Ruest.
Chris Cousineau is a snowboard instructor at Big Ben.
He says Big Ben is a good size hill on which to learn skiing
or snowboarding. He began snowboarding over 25 years
ago and used to compete in slopestyle competitions.
Now, Cousineau focuses on skateboarding
competitions. He is ranked 55th in the world under the
International Slalom Skateboarding Association. Slalom
skateboarding involves racing through a course against
a competitor. Cousineau says it is similar to slalom
snowboarding.
He has been teaching snowboarding for over 15
years.
“Chris is a great teacher,” added Ruest. “He’s very
patient. He’s a dad himself and I’m pretty lucky to have
had him all these years at the ski centre.”
On Thursday nights, Cousineau coaches group
snowboarding lessons at Big Ben.
“It’s fun teaching kids how to ride,” said Cousineau,
