      By Christine Ouellet

eahawk Watersports, an affordable venture business,
Sopened up shop off Trillium Drive, at Guindon Park
by the beach. From May to October, seven days a week,
from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., people can rent single or tandem
kayaks, which come with a paddle, life vests, or paddle

the technique, how to maneuver and paddle a kayak.

In the aftermath of COVID, Curtis Archer used this
downtime wisely to develop a business plan, renting
kayaks by the park. While all regular physical and social
activities were put on hold, Curtis Archer had the idea of
starting a business in something he loved. Kayaking was
one of the few activities people could do individually
without interfering with others, and he wanted to make it
available to the many people of Cornwall.

After experimenting with various options, such as the
transparent kayak, they settled on a more sustainable,
affordable model: a smaller blue Pelican fiberglass
lightweight one-person and a two-person kayaks. He also
offered another option to his customers, the purchase of
a membership, which costs between $40 and $60 for 30
hours, a formula currently used in gyms in the area.
Curtis says the practice of watersports is good for
mental health, it offers tremendous benefits, and he
actively promotes physical activity. He works with
the mental health unit and takes on handicapped kids,
offering them half price. He goes in the water with them
and teaches them how to paddle, how to get in and out, Photo By Christine Ouellet
