Fishing with George McFarlane
By Molly Kett
2-year-old George McFarlane
6has a big passion for fishing.
Originally from Jamaica, McFarlane
moved to Canada in 1988. He is a
millwright by trade and works as an
air compressor service technician. He
is now semi-retired and spends much
of his free time fishing.
“There are two things I love about
fishing,” says McFarlane. “I enjoy
having the time to be free from
everyone and everything, alone with
time to think. I also enjoy fishing
with friends so you can talk about
anything or nothing. You never know
if you are going to catch something
or what you might catch.”
McFarlane’s passion for the sport
started even before he moved to
Canada.
“My earliest memory is spear
fishing in Jamaica for barracuda,
groupers and parrot fish,” says
McFarlane.
He has since passed down his
passion to his son, which accounts for
some of his favourite memories. His
