Rookie of the Month
Jayden Leroux Ecole Terres des Jeunes School – Alexandria, On
Alexandria Atom C Glens
As captain of the Alexandria atom C Glens,
Jayden Leroux is following in the footsteps of his
older brother Nicholas, a midget B house player
in Alexandria. Leroux really didn’t want to play
hockey at first, then he went to watch his brother
play.
“I want to be just like my brother,” says the 9-year-
old. “I like helping the defence by skating back.”
While recognized for having a commitment to team
defence, Leroux has also been great offensively this
year leading his Glens as the most improved team
in the division. After some struggles early on, the
Glens have put together some league victories and
came very close to winning a tournament in Ottawa.
“I think it’s because we have had more practices and we are all working very hard,”
Leroux says in regards to the improved play.
“He’s a very good player and he covers for everyone in all positions,” says Leroux’s
head coach Robert Baylis. “He has a good spirit and a good love for hockey.”
Leroux’s highlight of the year was being named player of the tournament in Ottawa,
leading his team with 9 goals and 5 assists. If you can’t find Jayden playing street
hockey in the summer, he’s likely running the fields in the Glengarry Soccer League.
Leroux is competing in his third consecutive season as captain of a hockey team,
having held the position for both of his novice C seasons previously.
