Stories And More About The People In Stormont, Dundas & Glengarry
The Blue Jays are leading the American League east division going at the All-Star break.
Will they be contenders or pretenders this year?
Jake Lapierre -Conditioning Coach - The 2025 Blue Jays squad is having a very good season, and fans are certainly showing up to
the games or tuning in to Sports Net in full support. Leading up to the break, Jays have been progressively building momentum and
impressing bookies like sportsbooks listing the Jays as favourites to overtake the Yankees and win the AL East.
The Blue Jays offence, defence, and bullpen are all performing at a high level with standout players like Brendon Little, Yariel Rodriguez,
George Springer, Addison Barger, and Ernie Clement all contributing and elevating Jays performance.
If the Jays can add a dependable starter or two at the trade deadline and key contributors maintain their current performances, the Blue
Jays will be positioned as solid contenders this year.
Jim Riddell - Seaway Karate Club - The Blue Jays have exceeded expectations so far this year with a 61-42 record heading into the last
week of July. They are presently 4 1/2 games up on the Yankees, and 6 1/2 up on the 3rd place Red Sox. There are still a lot of games left to
play this season, and things turn around very quickly. The trade deadline is coming up soon and what the Blue Jays do at that time could
determine if they are “contenders or pretenders.” Currently they are sitting in 1st place in a winnable division and the team is looking
good.
Peter Collins - Sports Enthusiast - Few imagined that the Blue Jays would be in contention at mid-season let alone leading the East.
Add to that the Jays have received little support from off-season acquisitions Scherzer, Santander, and Gold Glove center fielder, Daulton
Varsho. If they can return to form in the second half of the season, the Jays should be able to make the playoffs. So far this season the Jays
have been carried by a decent starting rotation, okay relief pitching, and timely hitting. Springer, Bichette, and Kirk have been excellent at
the plate, and Kirk has great behind the plate as well. If Guerrero, their best and most important player can improve on his so so first half
numbers and hit like he did last year, that would benefit the cause. So far this year he hasn’t really earned his fourteen year, five-hundred-
million-dollar contract. The Yankees, Red Sox and Rays haven’t run away with the division and all three teams have some pretty major
flaws that prevent them from doing so. This year the Jays may just have the team to make some noise in the east. Let’s hope we can watch
some playoff baseball in October from Roger’s Center.
