Connor Spence
School: Char-Lan DHS
Grade: Gr. 12 Graduate (June 2022)
Connor Spence has been playing soccer for a long time. “I’ve
been playing soccer for as long as I can remember. I played
on my first real team fifteen years ago in Timbits soccer.
I’ve played competitive soccer for both the Seaway Valley
Blazers and the Glengarry Hearts, but now I just play GSL
with my friends, and in a men’s league with my brothers,”
says Connor.
Just recently graduated from Gr. 12 at CLDHS, Connor
has played many different school sports, from soccer and
volleyball to badminton. He explains that playing school
sports is a great way to experiment and try different sports
out, to discover the ones you like and are good at. “I would
recommend trying out for every sport that you can because
every sport is so different and fun, and if you don’t like one
there is definitely another you will like.”
Connor loves playing sports for many reasons besides the physical fitness and health benefits. He
enjoys the competitive nature of sports, stating that there isn’t anything better than the feeling of
scoring a goal or winning a close game. Additionally, he likes the social aspect of sports. “Some of
my best memories revolve around sports and laughing and goofing around with my friends between
games and tournament matchups. The social part of sports is one of the reasons I like team sports
more than individual sports – you make great friends when playing on a team.”
Going forward, Connor will be heading to the University of Ottawa to study nursing. After completing
his nursing degree, he plans to take the Nurse Practitioner course. While at school and outside of his
studies, Connor plans to continue playing soccer. “I don’t plan on playing at a university level, but I’ll
definitely play intramural soccer at school, and men’s league during the summer months.”
