Local athlete Madison Grant is a member of the Team Canada Rugby Sevens Women’s U-18.

Canada’s Women’s Team has won the 2018 Buenos Aires Youth Olympic Games Bronze Medal after defeating Colombia by a score of 24-9. Local athlete Madison Grant is a member of the Team Canada Rugby Sevens Women’s U-18 roster that competed at the 2018 Summer Youth Olympic Games in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

Madison Grant scored 1 try in the first half and another try in the second half of the bronze medal game.

On day one of the competition, Canada opened the tournament with a 24-15 victory over Kazakhstan and in their second game of the day; Canada defeated Tunisia 48-7.

Seaway Valley AA Hockey Celebrates 30 years, President Mark Desnoyers Has Been along for the Whole Ride.

On Saturday Oct 6th, Mark Desnoyers was recognized for 30 years with the Seaway Valley Minor Hockey Association!

Mark has been a volunteer with the Rapids since the beginning – 30 years! He has held many different positions on the board and also in a coaching capacity.

He currently presides as our president, is the District 2 chairperson, our HEO AA/A representative and convenor for the Minor Bantam AA division.

Last October, he was recognized by the hockey community and deservedly received the HEO Volunteer of the Year Award. He is also seen throughout the hockey season in the arenas taking in the Seaway Rapids in action!

Landon Galt Talks Multisport.

Twelve-year-old Landon Galt may be one of the younger members of the Cornwall Multisport Club, but that certainly doesn’t stop him from being one incredibly passionate member!

Currently in grade seven at Louis Riel in Ottawa, Galt is incredibly involved in local athletics.

“I love triathlon; I’ve never been off the podium with my results. I love hockey and I play for the Orleans Rush Peewee A team and currently affiliated to Bantam,” says Galt. “I also play for my school team.”

Galt’s participation in the Cornwall Multisport Club started with his grandparents’ involvement in the club.

“I started running and cycling at age six with my dad and grandmother,” says Galt. “I did the Monday night duathlon frequently and swam competitively with the Sea Lions. I decided to mix all 3 sports and started competing in triathlons in Cornwall and even at my cottage in Magog, Quebec. My dad, Scott Galt, is also very good and I love triathlon a lot because of him.”

Local Hockey Star Pete Piquette by Ellery Maloney

Local Hockey Star Pete Piquette

Ellery Maloney, recently spoke with Sports Energy News to remember his friend Pete Piquette. Piquette was a local hockey goaltender in the 1940’s and 50’s who saw great success in his hockey career, landing him a spot in the Cornwall Sports Hall of Fame. Maloney says he’s known Pete and his wife Betty for most of his life.

“We both played hockey, we were both goaltenders on separate teams. We’ve been such close friends since our early teens,” says Maloney. “We were in each other’s wedding parties as well.”

Pete Piquette was an exceptional good goaltender and he started his junior hockey with the Cornwall Community Sports Club. Piquette was soon called to play with the Oshawa Generals Jr. A team in the OHA, (Currently OHL). Maloney recalls one of the highlights of Piquette’s time with the Generals was his encounter with George Armstrong, an All-Star player with the Toronto Maple Leafs.
